The Story Behind Where Are You Going?:

While reading Worship by A.W. Tozer, I was struck by a simple but piercing idea in his chapter “Worship Like the Seraphim.” Tozer writes that if God can get our feet, we won’t go to the wrong places—and if He can get our hands, we won’t do the wrong things. A few pages later, he challenges the tendency of religious people to focus on where they’ve been. His response is blunt and freeing: “I don’t know and I don’t care where they’ve been. I want to know where they’re going. That’s all that matters. Where are you going, brother?”

That question lodged itself deep in my heart.

In a world—and even in the Church—where identity is often tied to past failures or past accomplishments, this song is a reminder that neither defines us. The past cannot be changed, the future is not yet in our control, but today we can choose to place our hands and feet in God’s care and walk toward Him. This song isn’t just for those who feel proud of their spiritual past, but also for those who feel defeated by it. In Christ, repentance brings freedom, and obedience brings direction.

Ultimately, Where Are You Going? is a joyful, forward-facing call to live in the present, walk in freedom, and pursue the upward call of God in Christ Jesus—because that’s what truly matters.
