The Story Behind To My Daughter:
To My Daughter is a heartfelt song written for my oldest daughter as she steps into a new season of life. As she was approaching graduation, this song became a way to capture the essence of the prayers for her through the years…the lessons, the faith, and the foundation that I hope carries her forward.
It’s both a celebration of who she’s becoming and a reminder of where her true identity is found, in Christ alone. Every lyric is rooted in love, surrender, and the deep hope that she walks confidently, freely, and joyfully in God’s purpose for her life.
This song is my gift to her. Something she can carry with her long after this chapter closes.
Bible Verses & Biblical Themes in To My Daughter:
- Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
- Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
- Matthew 7:24 ““Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
- 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”
- Colossians 3:2-3 “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”
- Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
- Galatians 5:1 “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”
- John 8:36 “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
- Ephesians 3:16-19 “That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
- Ephesians 2:8-10 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
- Isaiah 53:3-5 “He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.”
- Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
