Where is Your Faith?
And they went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm. He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and they marveled, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?” (Luke 8:24-25)
After Jesus rebuked the wind and waves and they had ceased, leaving the lake with a calm, Jesus asked them the question, “Where is your faith?”. The disciples seemingly didn’t listen or were so caught up in saying to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?” (Luke 8:25) that had they contemplated that question; their question should have been answered?
Their question of who commands winds and water and they obey is answered simply in, the creation obeys the Creator. By His word creation was spoken into being, and by His word creation obeys. But are we not part of His creation too? We are not only part of His creation, but we are made in His image and the only ones in creation in whom He died to redeem. How much more should we also obey His commands at the first sound of hearing them.
Applying Jesus’ question to yourself:
Knowing that Jesus is Creator of all in which even winds and water obey Him - “Where is YOUR faith?”
You’ve seen His works in your life or if you’re not walking with Jesus, then at the very least you’ve seen His works in the lives of His followers. Has He not proven Himself trustworthy of placing your faith in? He is always faithful and if you place your faith in Him alone, your faith will never be put to shame.
Be encouraged today, my friend, that if you’ve placed your faith in Jesus then He is indeed directing your life’s path. He is always with you and available to turn to in times of fear, and when you do hear your Creator’s commands – obey Him!
