A Renewed Mindset

And Joshua the son of Nun sent two men secretly from Shittim as spies, saying, “Go, view the land, especially Jericho.” And they went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab and lodged there. (Joshua 2:1)

When Moses sent spies into the land, fear ruled their hearts and it led to forty years of wandering. Yet when Joshua sent spies forty years later, the outcome was entirely different.

But why repeat the same plan? Because it was God’s idea to begin with (Numbers 13:1–2). Joshua wasn’t repeating disobedience, he was completing obedience.

This time, the report affirmed God’s promise: “Truly the LORD has given all the land into our hands” (Joshua 2:24). Circumstances were just as dangerous, but the mindset was transformed.

The rooftop where the spies hid could have become a place of despair, but instead it became proof of God’s provision. How we view the details of our lives matters. Our thinking shapes our decisions, and our decisions shape our direction.

Romans 12:2 calls us to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. When our thinking aligns with God’s promises rather than fear, obedience is what follows.
